In a nursing home, someone is on the corridor. In home care, the next check can be hours away — sometimes overnight. That gap is not a scheduling quirk. It is the shape of the service: finite staff, long distances, and people who want to keep living in their own homes.
What a visit cannot cover
A hjemmetjeneste visit does what only a person can do: help with medication, a meal, a conversation, a careful look at how someone is managing. What it cannot do is stay. Once the car door closes, the home is unsupervised again. That is usually fine. It is not fine on the night someone gets up, does not settle, and lies on the floor until morning — or on the morning they simply do not get up at all.
Families feel this acutely. So do care managers trying to stretch a scarce rota across more homes each year. Cameras are an obvious temptation and a dead end for most households: the bedroom and bathroom are where falls and bed-exits cluster, and they are exactly where images are least acceptable.
Awareness that travels with the home
Ambient sensing changes the gap without filling the house with hardware.
