Capability Overview for Care Services

Ambient safety for nursing homes and home care — without cameras. Sense everything. See nothing.

What it is

Stillsense turns the ordinary Wi-Fi already present in a room into a privacy-preserving sense of what's happening in the space. It detects presence, movement, bed-exits, and falls in real time — with no camera, no microphone, and no wearable — and alerts the right carer when something matters. All sensing is computed on a small device in the home; no image is ever created.

What it does

  • Presence detection

    Available

    Night supervision without physical rounds

  • Motion & activity

    Available

Recognising the rhythm of a normal day; restlessness

  • Bed-exit & night activity

    Available

Alerting on the highest-risk moment — rising alone at night

  • Fall detection

    Available, under independent validation

    Real-time fall alerts to staff

  • Whole-home coverage

    Available, layout-dependent

    Home-care coverage from few devices

  • Breathing-rate (sleep)

    Roadmap, validation-gated

Not entering care use until clinically validated

  • Heart rate / posture

    Not offered

Research-stage; not dependable enough for real homes

We claim only what's in the “Available” rows. Fall detection carries an active independent validation study before any safety-grade guarantee.

Privacy at a glance

  • No camera, no microphone, no recording — ever. No image is created, so none can be seen, stored, or leaked.
  • Edge processing: inference happens on-device, in the home; the raw signal does not leave the room.
  • Designed for the public-task lawful basis municipalities rely on (GDPR Art. 6(1)(e); health data Art. 9(2)), not fragile consent.
  • DPIA-ready (personvernkonsekvensvurdering) — a reusable template is provided.

How it fits your service

  • Alerts route to the response service (responstjeneste) and tools your teams already use.
  • Built for journal/EPJ integration via the Velferdsteknologisk knutepunkt (VKP).
  • Operates as a sensing layer alongside existing providers, not a replacement platform.
  • One calm staff dashboard: clear status, clear alerts, no noise.

Cost & deployment

  • Retrofits onto the Wi-Fi the home already has, plus a small, low-cost sensor.
  • Minutes to set up per room — no construction, no cameras to position.
  • Designed to avoid the NOK 20,000–40,000 per-room install cost typical of camera/radar supervision (source: Elektro 24-7, on Norwegian nursing-home digitalisation).

Funding fit

  • Aligned with Helseteknologiordningen digital-supervision priorities; we support joint (inter-municipal) applications.
  • Designed to start as a focused pilot (one ward or a handful of home-care users), then scale via framework agreements.

The value case

Digital supervision (digitalt tilsyn) is the welfare-technology solution with the largest documented municipal gains — an estimated NOK 1.1 billion/year, ~3.4 roles per municipality (KS / Oslo Economics, 2024). The benefit is proven; Stillsense is designed to make it affordable at the scale services actually need.

Evidence

Validation results, privacy documentation, and a security & compliance sheet are available.
